Windows 10 Cumulative Updates KB4579311 & KB4577671 Released

Today is the second Tuesday of October 2020 and the first batch of security updates or ‘B’ updates are now available for all supported versions of Windows 10.

If you want to grab these updates, check for updates in the Settings and the update will begin installing. If you don’t want to grab these fixes, make sure that you hit the pause button.

Like every Patch Tuesday release, the cumulative update comes with security fixes and general bug fixes, and the patch is rolling out to PCs with May 2020 Update, November 2019 Update, May 2019 Update and later.

Below is the list of all new updates for Windows 10:

• Windows 10 version 1607 — KB4580346 (OS Build 14393.3986)
• Windows 10 version 1703 — KB4580370 (OS Build 15063.2525)
• Windows 10 version 1709 — KB4580328 (OS Build 16299.2166)
• Windows 10 version 1803 — KB4580330 (OS Build 17134.1792)
• Windows 10 version 1809 — KB4577668 (OS Build 17763.1518)
• Windows 10 version 1903/1909 — KB4577671 (OS Builds 18362.1139 and 18363.1139)
• Windows 10 version 2004 — KB4579311 (OS Build 19041.572)
• Windows 10 version 20H2 (live for Insider Beta and Release Preview Channel) — KB4579311 (OS Build 19042.572)

Build 19041.572 for version 2004

The first cumulative update for Windows 10, version 2004 is KB 4579311 and it comes with these fixes:

• Addresses an issue with a possible elevation of privilege in win32k. 
• Addresses an issue with the Group Policy service that might recursively delete critical files in alphabetic order from %systemroot%\systm32. This issue occurs when a policy has been configured to delete cached profiles. These file deletions might cause stop error “0x5A (CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILED)” boot failures.
• Addresses an issue with creating null ports using the user interface. 
• Security updates to Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Virtualization, and Windows Kernel.

Users of the Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) for Japanese or Chinese languages might experience issues when attempting various tasks. You might have issues with input, receive unexpected results, or might not be able to enter text. When installing a third-party driver, you might receive the error, “Windows can’t verify the publisher of this driver software”. You might also see the error, “No signature was present in the subject” when attempting to view the signature properties using Windows Explorer.	This issue occurs when an improperly formatted catalog file is identified during validation by Windows. Starting with this release, Windows will require the validity of DER encoded PKCS#7 content in catalog files. Catalogs files must be signed per section 11.6 of describing DER-encoding for SET OF members in X.690.If this happens you should contact the driver vendor or device manufacturer (OEM) and ask them for an updated driver to correct the issue.

October 13, 2020, cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 (Builds 18362.1139 and 18363.1139)) include these fixes and improvements:
