Microsoft Replaces Edge Legacy In Latest Windows 10 Dev Build
Microsoft has started replacing the legacy version of the Edge browser with the new Chromium-based Edge in Windows 10 Dev builds.
This change is rolling out to all customers installing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21313, offered through the Dev Channel and available after joining the Windows 10 Insider Program.
“With the release of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21313, Microsoft Edge Legacy will be replaced by the new Microsoft Edge,” Senior Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc said.
“This will be the case for Windows 10 Insider Preview builds moving forward.
“And if you’d like to try out upcoming features in Microsoft Edge, join the Microsoft Edge Insider Program.”
The Chromium-based Edge browser was officially released in January 2020 with an installer that automatically replaces the legacy version on all devices.
Mandatory Windows 10 updates previously rolled out in September 2020 to systems running Windows 10 versions 1809, 1903, 1909, and 2004 to force install the new Microsoft Edge and remove the legacy version.

Windows 10 April updates remove Edge Legacy permanently
Microsoft previously announced that Edge Legacy will be permanently removed and replaced with the new Microsoft Edge after installing April’s Windows 10 Patch Tuesday security update.
“To replace this out of support application, we are announcing that the new Microsoft Edge will be available as part of the Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update—otherwise referred to as the Update Tuesday (or “B”) release—on April 13, 2021,” the Microsoft Edge Team said.
The new Edge is considered part of Windows 10’s overall security landscape and an integral part of the OS as Microsoft sources told BleepingComputer.
Because of this, the company wants to make sure that all Windows users will be able to use this more secure and higher-performance browser on all Windows 10 devices.
