Microsoft Office 365 is Down in the USA, Shows ‘Transient’ Error
Office 365 is currently suffering an outage in the United States and Australia that does not allow users to log in to their accounts.
Starting at approximately 5:15 PM EST today, Office 365 users in the United States and Australia began having difficulty logging into their email accounts or accessing email.
When attempting to login to their accounts, users are shown an error stating “AADSTS90033: A transient error has occurred. Please try again,” or other error messages.

This outage prevents users from logging into their email and accessing Microsoft Teams, Office.com, Power Platform, and Dynamics365.
Microsoft initially stated that they identified a change that caused the outage, but after rolling back the change, the outage was not resolved.
“We’ve identified that reverting the recent change did not alleviate impact to Microsoft services as expected. We’re working to explore additional options for mitigation,” states Microsoft’s status.office.com page.
Update 9/28/20 08:40 PM EST: Microsoft has started to reroute traffic through different servers and some users have reported being able to login again.
“We’ve determined that a specific portion of our infrastructure is not processing authentication requests in a timely manner. We’re pursuing mitigation steps for this issue. In parallel, we’re rerouting traffic to alternate systems to provide further relief to the affected users.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
