Microsoft Is Investigating Undeletable Outlook.com Emails

Microsoft Is Investigating Undeletable Outlook.com Emails

Microsoft is investigating a recently discovered issue that causes deleted emails to reappear in the mail inbox of Outlook.com accounts.

The exact cause behind these Outlook.com undeletable emails but the company says that it’s working on a fix to be deployed when a resolution is available.

Workaround available

Until a solution is available, Microsoft does provide a workaround to get rid of any messages that keep coming back after being removed.

“In the meantime, if the emails being reverted are coming from connected accounts you may be able to go to the Inbox of the originating account and delete the email to workaround the issue,” Microsoft explains.

“For example, if you have a Gmail connected account, go to Gmail.com and delete the email from there.”

Another Outlook.com issue where images are either corrupted or not visible in emails is also under investigation since August 2020.

Microsoft recommends users affected by this bug to “ask the sender to resend the picture as an attachment” as a workaround.

Resolved connection issues

Earlier today, Redmond has also fixed an issue triggering 503 errors when users attempted to access Outlook.com, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, and Power BI.

Further investigation of the ongoing issue found that it affected only certain specific to consumer services, including both Outlook.com and OneDrive.com, with some users also potentially experiencing problems accessing SharePoint Online with a consumer log-in as a guest account.

“When attempting to login to Outlook.com, users may have seen various error messages indicating the service was unavailable as well as latency and timeouts that resulted in 503 errors,” the company says on the service health portal. “During the impact timeframe, some retries may have been successful.”

Microsoft’s investigation later discovered that the errors were caused by underperforming infrastructure and fixed it by rerouting Outlook.com traffic to alternate infrastructure.
