Microsoft Edge is Coming to Linux in Preview in October

Microsoft Edge is Coming to Linux in Preview in October

Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge was first released in January to Windows consumers and enterprises, and now Linux users will finally get a taste of Microsoft’s new browser.

Microsoft has been busy adding new features to the browser to stand out from other Chromium rivals, such as Chrome and Brave. In addition, the company has long stated that they are working on an Edge for Linux version.

Microsoft Edge for Linux was first teased at Build 2020 developer conference, and the Edge development team has finally announced the Linux version with a strong focus on IT management needs.

Edge for Linux early look

With the kickoff of Microsoft Ignite 2020 today, Microsoft has announced that it is releasing a version of its new Chromium-based Edge browser specifically for Linux users in October.

“Our mission to bring Microsoft Edge to the platforms our customers use daily takes its next step: starting in October, Microsoft Edge on Linux will be available to download on the Dev preview channel. When it’s available, Linux users can go to the Microsoft Edge Insiders site to download the preview channel, or they can download it from the native Linux package manager,” Microsoft announced at the Ignite 2020 conference.

Microsoft Edge for Linux will allow IT pros to use mobile application management (MAM) and selectively manage individual work-related apps. Likewise, IT admins can also manage browsing of users in their work profile.
