iOS Clock App Crashes Due To Strange Beirut Timezone Bug
A strange bug in iOS is causing the Clock app to crash when creating a new alarm if the device’s timezone is set to Beirut, Lebanon.
Today, a reader shared the bug with BleepingComputer, and after testing it on devices running iOS 14.4 and 14.4.1, we can confirm that the Clock apps crashes if we are using the Beirut timezone.
This bug is believed to have started iOS 14.4, which was released in January, with Apple users in Beirut suddenly complaining that the Clock app started crashing when setting a new alarm.
“It just started happening yesterday and/or today, right? Do you live in Beirut? Apparently there’s a bug with Beirut’s timezone because today I got several calls from device owners living in Beirut having the same problem.”
“We switched to Cairo’s timezone and it got resolved,” a user posted to Apple’s forums in February.
To test the bug, you simply need to go into the Settings > General > Date & Time and set the timezone to Beirut, Lebanon. Once you change the timezone and attempt to create a new alarm, the Clock app will crash, as shown in our video below.
Apple is aware of the bug as a user on Twitter have reported it to Apple on February 23rd and received a response from Apple Support on the same day.
