Microsoft Kills Off The Cortana App For Android And iOS
While Cortana is evolving and it’s here to stay, it’s no secret that most people prefer Google Assistant, Siri, and even Amazon Alexa over Microsoft’s digital assistant.
Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana was first unveiled with Windows Phones, and it was later introduced on Android and iOS.
Microsoft had even offered Cortana in its Microsoft Launcher, but they decided to remove all the consumer-centric integrations after focusing instead on enterprise customers.
Due to this, Microsoft Cortana for Android and iOS never took off with mobile users. While we do not know how many users installed it on iOS, Google Play only shows approximately 1 million users installed it on Android devices.

On the other hand, Amazon’s digital assistant, Alexa, boasts over 50 million downloads on Google Play.
Reading the writing on the wall, Microsoft announced in July that it would discontinue the Cortana app for mobile devices.
Microsoft today confirmed that it has officially ended support for Cortana on mobile, and the apps will stop working after March 31, 2021.
“As we announced in July, we will soon be ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS, as Cortana continues its evolution as a productivity assistant,” Microsoft noted in a support document.
If you use Cortana and you’ve created reminders and lists, Microsoft says you can still access those contents through Cortana in Windows. You can also use Microsoft To-Do, which automatically stores Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks.
Cortana remains supported on Windows 10
For Windows 10, Microsoft has promised that Cortana will still receive new features, and it will get better with regular updates via the Microsoft Store.

For example, in the preview builds, Microsoft is already testing a new feature that will allow users to use Cortana to search for files by sharing parts of file names, author names, and file type.
